Achema 2015 Frankfurt

In view of the approaching regulations for serialization in the USA and the EU Atlantic Zeiser presented during this year’s Achema exhibition in Frankfurt/Germany a comprehensive solution concept consisting of software and hardware for the serialization of pharmaceutical packaging.

The centerpiece of the concept is represented by MEDTRACKER serialization software which helps to generate and administrate a large amount of number ranges with unique serial numbers. This is especially important for the export of medication in different regions of the world. At the same time MEDTRACKER can also be used as a full-fledged production management platform which allows simultaneous controlling and administrating of a wide range of hardware for coding and aggregation.

Many visitors were impressed by the fact that the modular software architecture MEDTRACKER can be adapted to current as well as future requirements without need for investments in programing and validation. Be it for the management of multiple lines on site or enterprise level or the adaptation to international coding and aggregation principles in the future. MEDTRACKER is conceived in a way that the implementation of machinery from third party manufacturers is possible under certain preconditions.

“With MEDTRACKER we created a scalable future-proof basis for serialization that is able to safeguard todays and future investments in soft- and hardware” said Dr. Stefan Öing, Product Manager at Atlantic Zeiser during his presentation.

In order to complete the one-stop serialization solution being showcased at Achema, Atlantic Zeiser also presented the compact and highly configurable track & trace module MEDILINE T&T which can be easily integrated into existing packaging lines. The precise transporting mechanism guarantees a consistent and reproducible high printing quality. In addition, the manual aggregation station MEDILINE CodeCollectM was introduced to the public. The system allows the efficient and ergonomic aggregation of single items into cases and pallets. Equipped with a 16 megapixel camera with omnidirectional code reading abilities and automatic adjustment of focus up to 8 layers can be easily aggregated per case.

Besides serialization, this year’s appearance of Atlantic Zeiser also dealt with cost-efficiency for coding and late stage printing of primary packaging. Based on Atlantic Zeiser’s DoD UV-inkjet core technology two new printing systems were introduced.

With DIGILINE Blister it is possible to print digitally on blister lid foil up to 350 mm width and to directly feed said foil to a blister packaging machine. This approach offers tremendous cost advantages especially for smaller and medium sized production runs as job setups can be realized without mechanical effort by simply swapping a PDF file. The DIGILINE Blister is available in three versions: as the exhibited nearline version or as an offline roll to roll version or as an inline version which is fully integrated into a blister packaging machine.

With DIGILINE Label Atlantic Zeiser offers a digital printing system that allows coding of pharmaceutical labels from 20 mm to 120 mm. Compared to commonly used thermal-transfer technology DIGILINE Label offers a wide range of advantages: The prints are extremely durable and resistant against wear and alcohol based solvents. The system allows unattained printing speed of up to 60 meters per minute. At the same time the costs for consumables and maintenance is significantly lower in comparison to thermal-transfer technology which has also non-negligible influence on cost-efficiency and down-times.

The presented systems can be viewed again during the Fachpack in Nuremberg, Germany from 28 September 2015 until 1 October 2015.
