High availability from start to finish

The top Dutch transport authority RDW fares well with a full-service contract for its personalization systems from Atlantic Zeiser.

The Dutch vehicle registration authority Dienst Wegverkeer, or RDW for short, plays an important role in driving permits and exams as well as vehicle registrations. RDW ensures operational and legal safety and keeps an eye on sustainability. So, it needs reliable, secure and efficient personalization for registrations, driver’s and boat licenses and has therefore been using Atlantic Zeiser solutions since 2006. The current systems have been in use for ten years and encompass digital data personalization, chip programming, and optical personalization of data including photos.

“It is very important to us that our systems perform well, and we have to keep unexpected downtimes to a minimum,” says Ivo van der Werff, Unitmanager Cards & Brieven. “We succeed at that because our partner regularly performs preventive maintenance during periods when we can do without the systems.” It is important to always maintain high personalization system availability. “The costs are transparent and clearly defined ahead of time.”

RDW

RDW concluded a full-service contract with Atlantic Zeiser in 2014. Besides preventive maintenance, it includes reaction times for telephone support, on-site technician deployment, and spare and wear parts needed to produce the defined card types and quantities. “Since many of these Atlantic Zeiser parts are kept in stock at our location, we or the service technicians can react quickly if there is unplanned downtime,” says van der Werff. The parts storage facility at RDW is adjusted according to the parts used. Atlantic Zeiser replenishes it or makes the material available for RDW to store on site. The service contract also includes the increasingly important components of maintenance, software updates, and remote service specifically for software issues.

To react with service as quickly as required, Atlantic Zeiser has defined and trained a Dutch partner. When that partner requires further support, it can quickly request additional expertise or experts from Atlantic Zeiser. For software issues, another external specialist partner has been made available. “If unexpected problems arise during production, we just send an e-mail to our special VIP account and quickly receive a prioritized response with the technical support team reference number. The team quickly and competently presents a solution or proposes additional steps” says van der Werff. “This system works smoothly. We are very satisfied and are pleased to be able to provide our citizens with the best possible service.”
